Don't worry...All will be well :)
So as you all know there were attacks in Brussels this week, in fact you all know more than I do about what's going on. All of us missionaries appreciate the fasting and prayer in behalf of us and our friends up in Brussels. Please also keep President and Sister Babin in your prayers because they're dealing with a lot right now as you will see in the rest of my email.
This Wednesday is transfers! (Another reason why the Babin's are stressed) Elder Long and I will be staying another transfer together here in Évry. Elder Long and I get to go hang around one of the train stations in Paris to organize all the missionaries that are coming and going through that station. One of those missionaries is Elder Libby!
It's been six months since I've seen that kid, so he's pretty happy that I'm going to be there. He is going to be training up in Belgium.
We had the sickest service project a couple weeks ago. A nonmember from Logan was moving to the area, she got in touch with the Melun elders and so we went with them and the sisters to help unload this lady's stuff in a storage unit. She shows up with a CARGO CONTAINER filled with random crap and furniture! It took us like 3 hours to unload and store all of it, but we got it done! She gave each of us a pan filled with cookies and brownies she made. YUM! I sent a pic of all of us afterward with her son.
This last Sunday was pretty awesome! We had 5 Amis at church, and Liddy came with all three of her kids (Nedved 13, Melvine 9, and Urdie 7)!!!!! :) She was an hour late....but still ;) haha luckily we have sacrament meeting at the end. We have been teaching them about once a week and they're progressing slowly but surely. Nedved went to a stake youth activity and they all seem to be making friends. Now we're focusing on helping them create good gospel habits (family and individual prayer/scripture study, church attendance, etc.) We're probably going to invite Nedved and Melvine to be baptized this week...fingers crossed ;)
Update on Eddine and Samra: They are doing great! We've been teaching them twice a week with members, and Eddine told us last week that he is ready to get baptized as soon as possible. So April 9th he's going to be baptized by a friend who gave him the Book of Mormon a couple months ago. We are super stoked! Samra hasn't been able to come to church though. She's been getting sick a lot and the fact that she's pregnant doesn't help at all. Please keep her in your prayers.
We are also teaching this super cool young guy named Daniel. He just started believing in God and Christ about 6 months ago. He's evangelical, but he loves learning with us. We taught him today with a young adult named Rock. They got along great and we had a pretty spiritual lesson about prophets and the restoration. After we all played ping pong together with the missionaries in the district because we had a district meeting tonight.
So I mentioned that Bishop Furtado and his family came back from Portugal a couple weeks ago. The first Sunday back he invited us over to his house later that week, so we could teach a family they are friends with! Unfortunately the family got sick a couple days before, but that didn't stop Bishop. He had us invite Eddine and Samra over for a lesson and dinner. We taught about the Priesthood and after we explained it Samra asked the Bishop, "So after Eddine gets baptized, he can receive the priesthood and then baptize me?" We all answered yes very enthusiastically ;) That was a Friday and then Saturday we get a text from Bishop saying that he invited their friends over for Sunday night dinner and he wanted us to come teach them and eat with them again! So we show up Sunday night and as he's picking us up from the station he tells us that their friends had to cancel about an hour before because the husband got sick that day (Satan is really trying to stop us from teaching that family! Haha) but we were already there so he took us to his place and we gave a little spiritual thought for
their daughter Lara (5) because Leonor (the 3 year old with cancer), and Samuel (18 months) were already asleep. Then we ate some amazing chili with chips and guacamole (Romina, the wife, is a great cook!) We had the most amazing time together! Lara was sitting next to me and since there weren't any other kids I HAD ;) to sit and talk/play with her. Suffice it to say that we are now best friends! :) She was showing me a bubbles that she had got, talking about how Leonor thinks that Thor is a girl superhero because he has long hair, and all sorts of other random stuff. Haha! Yesterday at church right after sacrament meeting (which we do at the end) she runs up to me and hugs my legs,
looking up at me with the grin that cute kids give you when they know you think they're adorable ;) She then proceeded to follow me around for the next 20 minutes as Elder Long and I talked with members and planned appointments. This family is making me so trunky!! Haha Also, kind of sadly, Bishop Furtado was released as Bishop (probably because of Leonor's health problems), so now our new Bishop is Frère Boisserie (the high councilor who gave us the shoutout at stake conference). Also, Leonor was hospitalized again this week, and she'll be there for a couple days. This is another stressful thing for the Babin's because as I mentioned, Frère Furtado served his mission here in France and specifically here in Évry (where the Babin's live) about 10 years ago. After his mission he came back and did two years of study here in France, and guess who he lived with...that's right the Babin's. He's like another son for them (I got to see pictures of them at his wedding haha! President used to have really brown hair....it's weird looking haha! ;) ) So if this family could be kept in your prayers it would be much appreciated. I'll try and get some pictures of them next week (Leonor stole her dad's phone and took selfies with me, but I haven't gotten those pics yet) haha ;)

Once again, no group e-mail this week. I attempted to "chastise" Bronson for failing to send long, detailed e-mails to his mom and below is the response I received on Monday;
I just got to the church I'm sending an email today. I don't know how other missionaries have time to do that (unless they're in the US because they have cars and it's easy mode, so they have more time). My last email was way more than two sentences ;) I have had to go into Paris every Monday this transfer (I just got back 3 hours ago and then had to eat, shop, and clean) because of random stupid crap, and public transportation just knocks me out (and if I don't close my eyes I get sick).

Mom I'm not going to get a group email out today. I sent some pictures on iMessage from a service activity and in front of the temple and me touching the Seine river right next to Notre Dame de Paris.
The sisters showed up at the church and distracted us, we had to enter in all the statistics for this week and a potential ami called us and we've been planning something with him.
I suck at keeping a journal, plus if I don't have time to write the email, I don't have time to write a descriptive journal entry.
I'm really sorry. We literally are ALWAYS busy, and we get home late almost everyday and then have to plan, so I can only really write on P-Days and the last couple ones have been hectic and annoying.

Week 75 - Is this Utah...?
So just so everyone knows, I'm not in Mulhouse. There was a blue that was supposed to come into the mission this transfer, but he got reassigned, so I'm taking his place in Évry which is about 40 minutes south of Paris. My comp's name is Elder Long, he's from Oklahoma and he's been in the field for almost a year.
Monday 15 Feb.--Tonight we went with Frère Tuffigo to buy a couch for his mom and helped him transport it. He's such a funny guy! He always has this grin on his face like he's high haha :)
Wednesday 17-- Got to Évry which is super urban and way different than my other sectors. The majority of the people are African in the city, we are constantly using urban trains and buses to get around, and we are in a HUGE ward (about 160 people each week). It's SOO different! Also because we have awesome public transportation we can reach almost every member and most of our area in less than 2 hours! The ward here is so strong! A third of all the stake officers are from our ward, and all the ward council members are just as solid. It's cool because our ward mission leader is President Babin's son in law(they are living in the Babin's house during their mission), and another one of their daughters lives in the ward with her family. Our bishop is currently in Portugal because his daughter has cancer and they're getting treatment there, so I didn't get to meet him tonight at our ward council. But the rest of the members were so sick! We also visited a member of the elders quorum presidency( Frère Digbehi) this afternoon. He's from the Ivory Coast and is so cool! He made us fried plantains while we gave a spiritual thought haha :)
Thursday--We got to go visit our DMP (ward mission leader in French) at his house, so that means I sat on President Babin's couch ;) Their kids are so cute! Tonight I taught the weekly Book of Mormon Class we have here in Évry. We have a companionship of sisters in our ward also, so each week we take turns teaching a class on passages from the Book of Mormon. I taught about the gospel of Jesus Christ with 3 Nephi 27. Frère Digbehi was there as well as one of our amis, Eddine. We had a wonderful discussion and all of us felt the Spirit a ton. Afterward we went over to the elders quorum president's house (Frère Bailly) to have a mangez-vous and practice teach the restoration to them. Amazingly we did both in 30 minutes because our BoM class ran late. I never thought you could testify of Joseph Smith with cake in your mouth and still feel the Spirit but it can happen! ;) haha
Friday-- We went out porting/less active hunting and we felt the distinct impression to go down a certain street. We look at the name of the street right before porting and it's called Maple street (it was in French but still a pretty classic American name for a street) so we get excited and start porting....nothing. But it was a good night, we had some interesting conversations with a Muslim and a Jehovah's Witness. Anyway we get home and start planning. The next morning we were supposed to do a service project helping a member finishing moving all her stuff out of her old house. We didn't know where she lived and while we were searching on the map we came across her address....13 maple street.....we both were like freak did we port into her last night!?
Saturday-- So we head out to the address and standing in front of the house we realized that we had indeed ported the house and they very adamantly said they weren't interested....awkward right? Haha. Just then we get a call from the high priests group leader (Frère Meunier, the husband of the Babin's other daughter in the ward) asking us where we are. We're like, "right in front of the house, but nobody else is here." He tells us that there are like 6 people out front with two vans. We look around...nothing. So I'm checking the map while Elder Long is talking to him. Apparently this road continues into the next town and after it crosses the boundary the numbers all start over. So we walk down the street about 5 minutes and we find everyone, luckily we hadn't ported that house yet :) haha We helped out a little bit and the new owners were there so we got to talk to them. They were so surprised that they got to talk to two Americans and a Brazilian (Frère Ozari, executive secretary, was there helping he's from Brazil but speaks French and English pretty well)! This afternoon we had the baptism for the granddaughter of the lady we helped. She just turned eight (her dad, Frère Arriaza is the first counselor in the bishopric). It was super cool because they invited a ton of family and friends so we got to have some awesome discussions and teach some little lessons. It was weird though because there were more people at the baptism than have been at sacrament meeting in any of my other areas haha! :)
Sunday--Church was great! Eddine was there with one of his sons for sacrament meeting. We invited ourselves over to three members' houses ;) You have to invite yourself or you don't get invited :) haha
Feb 22-28
This week was sick!.....and so was I! Haha ;) I felt like crap all week, but we were too busy to take any breaks. We found this cool older lady named Collette while porting. She's super outspoken and not too polite sometimes but it's funny ;) She let us come back with a member (Sister Coloma) who lives like 5 minutes away. We taught the Restoration and invited her to start reading the Book of Mormon, she said she would! The only problem is that she's also studying with the Jehovah's Witnesses, and she told them definitively (and us as well) that she would not be baptized and she wouldn't get married to her boyfriend (she's a widow). We'll see about that haha!
We taught Eddine at the beginning of the week with his wife. She's a non-practicing Muslim, but is super spiritual and as we talked about the family she got super interested and said she'd like to learn about our message. So we set up a lesson later in the week at the house of the Primary President (Sister Alves) because they are a super strong and spiritual family (Frère Alves is on the high council) and the Mouktard's (Eddine and Samra) have two little boys. We taught the Plan of Salvation and Samra just ate it up (Eddine had already had the first two lessons). The Alves family were pitching in and testifying without us even asking and it was pretty much an awesome lesson. We had to leave to get to another appointment, but they stayed together and had dessert and talked for like an hour after we left! #gomembers!
The appointment we had after was with a recent convert family that have had trouble coming to church the past couple weeks. Sam and Admaya Koker are some of the funniest people I've ever met! They're African and English speaking and they have a super adorable toddler named Harry. We were supposed to teach a potential investigator with them because he speaks English. He couldn't make it, so we just talked with them about what they've been studying in the gospel, and had a super great time. We had to get home because it was almost nine, but apparently Admaya had made a meal for us and our potential, so she packed up about a pound of chicken and like 2 pounds of fried rice into a Tupperware and sent us home with it....OMG she knows how to cook! Haha It was SOO good.
This week we met with the family Madzela (super cool African family in the ward) a couple times because their son, Christ-Eric, just turned 8 and was going to be baptized this Saturday. The dad, asked us to come teach the basic missionary lessons to help solidify what they've been teaching at home. So we taught him a couple times, and it was super weird! 99% of all African kids are crazy nuts and loud, but Christ-Eric and his little sister were super calm, respectful, and attentive. It was really refreshing actually haha! So Saturday comes and guess who gets to be at the church at 6:00 to start filling up the font for the baptism at 10:00.... That's right! The missionaries!! But the baptism was awesome and we were asked to be the two witnesses for the baptism, so it's all good haha :) Plus, after the baptism there was a little luncheon and we got to stay and eat. There was a ton of really good African food....I love this ward! Haha
Saturday night and Sunday was Stake Conference. Elder Timothy J Dykes of the seventy presided at the conference. Eddine was able to make it to the adult session, but not Sunday. Samra wasn't feeling good, so didn't come (she's like 7 months pregnant so she isn't taking any chances). This week we visited with the Boisserie family (he's the high councilor over missionary work and lives in Évry) and shared a spiritual thought and a raclette ;) haha But he gave a mini talk during the general session and he gave us a shout out! It was great because President and Soeur Babin were visiting #browniepoints haha just kidding ;)
Sunday night we were out porting and this guy answered took one look at us and said in English, "I know you, you're here to sell the Book of Mormon, I'm not interested." Shocked, we said that we weren't here to sell anything, just to help people grow closer to Christ. We asked him where he learned to speak English so well, and he told us his wife is American and he teaches English and American law at a university in Paris. We started to chitchat and after a little bit he let us in to talk with him. An hour and a half later we had taught pretty much the entire restoration, and talked about everything from the Book of Mormon musical to reincarnation vs resurrection to Donald Trump and everything in between. He said he was really busy for the moment but he gave us his card and said he would read and pray about the Book of Mormon. He also gave us some Dr Pepper because we're American haha :)
Feb 29-March 6
So a little bit before I got to Évry the elders were contacted by a woman, Liddy, who said she was a member but hadn't been to church in 20 years. She wanted us to come and teach her 13 year old son. So we show up Monday night and there are like 10 people there! Her brother and sister in law, her friend, her sister, and two of her sons. Originally she just wanted us to teach the 13 year old, Nedved, but we weren't about to pass up the opportunity to teach a whole family of Africans, so we invited everyone to join in. The brother listened a little bit, but the sister, Lorien, and the two sons, Nedved and Melvine (9 years old), were super interested in the restoration, each took a Book of Mormon and we set up another appointment. We met with them again, but Liddy didn't participate at all. It's weird, she wants us to teach her son, but she has no desire to listen or come to church. So we read with the kids and Lorien in 3 Nephi 11 about the Savior's visit. It went pretty well, and they all committed to start reading and praying every day.
We met with the Mouktards twice this week. We changed Eddine's baptismal date to the 9th of April and we think we might be able to get Samra ready by then too. We taught the restoration up to Joseph Smith, and Samra was understanding everything, asking questions and was super excited. This was great because I'm pretty sure she has ADD because until we start teaching she's really distracted and also just seems totally beat, but every time we start teaching she gets this glow about her and is full of energy. She was super excited when we told her the next time we would be meeting at another member's house to watch the restoration video. She hates reading but loves tv, so we thought that would help her out. We all met up on Friday at the Mukuemo family's house and watched the restoration together and we all testified of Joseph Smith, the Book of Mormon, and the church. Frère Mukuemo talked about how he was converted and they answered questions. The two families totally hit it off, and we are going to be integrating the Mouktards with the Mukuemos
We went out less-active hunting a little but this week, and one of them totally paid off. We stopped by a lady named sister Ramos (we found out later she's less-active only because her husband won't let her go to church all the time, but whenever he lets her she's there. So already a miracle that he didn't mind us visiting her!) She's from Cuba but has been in France for about 30 years. So we sit down and start talking with her and her sister (her sister just moved here from Cuba about 7 months ago, so she doesn't really speak French) it was funny having everything translated by her sister. Elder Long speaks a tiny bit of Spanish so he got to whip that out. When the sister spoke to us I could understand the jist of it, but responding was pretty much impossible. But the sister said she would be interested in meeting with us, so we set up an appointment with both of them!
Sunday the Bishop and his family were back! I got to meet them, and they are seriously so amazing! He's from Portugal and actually served in the Évry ward during his mission. Also, Frère Alves pulled me aside during priesthood meeting and asked me to help him teach the 8-11 year olds in Primary because he needed someone else to be in there with him. We taught about prayer and it was GREAT!! I forgot how much I love teaching primary kids. SHOUTOUT to all my amazing primary kids, I love you! Guess who showed up to church for sacrament meeting....Sister Ramos, her sister, and her friend that we had met briefly! It was so great to see them, and they all seemed excited for our appointment.
Quick side note
In the last two weeks we have had 8 meal appointments with some of the coolest families ever! Haha Perks of being in a big ward ;) Also, I am becoming incredibly trunky because there are so many stinking cute babies and kids in the ward and I can't play with them. I have to settle for peekaboo during sacrament meeting. haha jk...kinda...
Funny Story
So yesterday we had an appointment with an old investigator we called a couple days ago. We start talking with him and he's going off about all sorts of weird stuff, why America invaded Iraq, politics, reincarnation, etc. We told him why we were there as missionaries and asked him why he thought we felt impressed to call him rather than all of the other people in our phone. He got quiet for a second and said, "I know why....You are missionaries of Jesus Christ......and Je suis Jesus-Christ." Now for all you non-French speakers, Je suis can mean one of two things, I follow or I am......I turn to this guy and say "you follow Jesus Christ or you are Jesus Christ?" He looks at me with this Joker style grin and says, "I am Jesus Christ." ............"Well it was nice talking to you if you ever are ready to learn if we have the truth call us. Have a good day." Hahaha We aren't calling him back!
Noël family update
So these past couple weeks I've been writing the Noëls from time to time. They changed their date to April 30th because Emy (that's right they are using short versions of their names with me! Haha we're tight!) has to work the day they had originally chosen. They're going to all three hours of church as a family and they are absolutely loving everything they're learning. They've already started inviting relatives to their baptisms as well! The coolest part for me is that I got permission to go to their baptism, and they told me they would be honored to have me baptize both of them!!!!
Sorry I took so long to write this all out. We have only been home on time like twice and we've had appointments on P-Days and stuff. Literally we've taught about 25 lessons a week these last three weeks......we are so freaking busy haha! But it's good :)

Week 72 --- What a Glorious Week!
After Bronson sent this group e-mail, he sent me another quick e-mail letting me know he is being transferred to Evry (a suburb of Paris) instead of Mulhouse.
I just found out because a bleu got reassigned to a stateside mission, I'll be filling his place in Évry (near Paris) and I won't be in a threesome... (A lot of missionaries call it that actually;))
Tuesday 9 Feb-- Today we had our last district meeting of the transfer. It was super fun as usual (pics will be sent separately) and then we took the train back with the Sisters (they wanted to take funny selfies, so you'll get some of those too). But the coolest thing was our appointment this afternoon with the Noel's. We talked about church and they said they really liked it and they wanted to come again. Then we told them our goal in meeting with them wasn't to just answer all their questions and teach our doctrines, they can come to church and look on lds.org for that. Our goal is to see them sealed as a family in the temple, and as missionaries we help them get through the first step, baptism. We asked them if that was something they would like to do, and they both said that would be something they could see themselves doing. We then shared the Mormon Message "Waiting on Our Road to Damascus" by President Uchtdorf. Go watch it ;) Brice is very similar to the man featured in the video, and his wife turned and grinned at him whenever the man spoke and Brice was like "I guess I'm not the only one like that haha". (I'm pretty sure I saw the beginnings of a tear come to this manly guy ;) ). We testified that if they made the commitment to the Lord they wouldn't regret it, and then committed them to read the Book of Mormon TOGETHER every night and pray as a family every night. Then Paul started crying and being fussy (he's been sick for the past couple weeks), I felt impressed to ask his mom (this is the third time I've seen her and I've NEVER done this before) if she would like us to give him a priesthood blessing. She was really excited and said yes. So with Brice holding Paul we gave him a blessing. He was freaking out the entire time because he didn't feel good and we had our hands on him. I promised that he would be healed in a couple of days, and right before I finished the words "be calm" came out of my mouth. As soon as I finished he was perfectly calm, happy, and took the Book of Mormon from his mom and started looking at the pictures and repeating the names HIS PARENTS told him, Joseph, Jesus, Moroni. :) It was a powerful experience.
Wednesday 10 Feb-- Today we got the coolest text from the Noel's...
Good evening,
Emilie and I have decided to only frequent the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints...
We no longer want to resist the Holy Ghost and that which is obvious of this choice: Christ.
We said how happy we were and then he responded:
It was the engagement of my wife that kept me from progressing... Goes to show how truly important the family is ;)
We are now praying to fix a date for our double baptism.

Good evening,
Just for your information after prayers, introspection, and long discussions, we have made a DEFINITIVE decision about the baptism...
The turd left us hanging like that, so we asked what the decision was :) haha
We have decided that we will be baptized together Saturday May 14th. We are in agreement with the beliefs of the church and want to live from now on as Christians. We don't want to wait any more "on the road to Damascus" ;)
And like I said: this decision is DEFINITIVE.
He then asked if we would baptize them.....My heart dropped and I had to say the saddest thing ever "Unfortunately I'll be leaving this Wednesday". That night as Rollins and I talked I realized how much I truly love this family, and I felt like they were the reason I was called to France.
Thursday we also ate lunch with Sister Lefebvre and Brother Paporé. She made three different types of mousse for dessert after a large meal....it was lunch....haha but it was SOOO good!
Saturday we had the baptism for Joshua Passavant. It was a super spiritual meeting and we were asked to stand in the circle for his confirmation. I have pictures of us cleaning and testing the font the day before ;) haha that was fun.
Sunday the Noel's were at church and we had great talks. I had to give my parting testimony (which was super sad because I absolutely love this branch so much, it's probably my favorite so far) because....I'm going to Mulhouse which is right next to Germany. It's a ward there with 140 members.....I'm so scared! I don't know how to act in a big ward! Haha. Also, I'm going to be in a trio for at least six weeks with Elders Bennett and Moore.....that'll be super weird!
Today
(Monday the 15th) we took some time out of P-Day to go say goodbye to the Noel's . We told them that after about 6 weeks the missionaries are going to run out of things to teach them, and that they'll be ready for baptism earlier than they think. Haha! Then I said goodbye. I barely got out the, "I love you so much" before the tears started coming. Emilie was crying too and Brice was trying to be manly so he kept them in haha, but all of us felt the Spirit so strongly I can't even explain how beautiful the moment was. I jokingly told Brice that I loved him even though he made me cry multiple times(that part wasn't the joke) which Emilie thought was hilarious :)
I'm truly going to miss all the people here in Le Havre and in my district here. These last three transfers will be hard to beat ;)

Week 71 --- The Balm in Gilead
So this week was a ton better than last week. Tuesday we had a finding day in Le Havre. After our district meeting here, all 5 companionship so stayed here until like 6:00 and just contacted like crazy. We got 3 new investigators and a lot of potentials. I worked with Elder Larsen and Elder George. So funny story, my last week as DL when I was calling the sisters they asked if they could do anything to help me out. Jokingly, I said bring me tacos at district meeting...well today Sister Poznanski shows up with a taco kit for me...
Later that night ;) haha!
Thursday---So during our district meeting on Tuesday we get a text from Brice Noel. (Remember the guy that definitively dropped us?) He said that we probably think he's a crazy person, or at least very indecisive, but he AND HIS WIFE have been feeling the impression that they need to come to our church at least once! We testified that it was Heavenly Father speaking through the Holy Ghost and set an appointment to show them both the church and answer some questions they had about tithing. So today they show up and we show them around. They were both incredibly impressed at how beautiful, simple and practical the building was, but most importantly when we showed the baptismal font they were impressed by the fact that it was below the ground (to help with the symbolism of the death and burial) and they seemed excited as we explained how we baptize. Then we sat down and talked about tithing because he had asked if a man needed to pay the full ten percent in order to receive the Aaronic priesthood (which means he's thinking about his life as a member ;) ). We explained that to be baptized everyone needed to commit to pay a full tithe, and then testified of the blessings that come from obedience to that law. We left them with the pamphlet on tithing and fast offerings, and they said (without our encouraging) they would pray about that and the restoration! We got a text later this week saying that they completely understand and accept the doctrine of tithing! Later Thursday we went to dinner with our branch mission leader at the home of a less active we visit. That was pretty fun as well.
Sunday--- They all came to sacrament meeting! Brice, his wife Emilie and their son Paul were there for our fast and testimony meeting. They said they really liked it, and they said they wanted to meet with us on Tuesday as a family! The Lord really tried my faith these last couple weeks, but He more than made up for it. This is such a beautiful family and I'm sure they will be baptized in the next few months.
Sorry this wasn't very long, but I want to leave you with my testimony. I testify that our Heavenly Father knows and loves us perfectly, and because of that He gives us trials and tests that are always for our benefit. I know my Savior because of my struggles, and I know that through our own individual trials we can all come to know our Savior if we will but search for Him. There is a Balm in Gilead, and He provides the sweetest, purest, and most lasting comfort and healing imaginable. As one of His authorized representatives I bear you this witness. He lives. In the sacred name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Thursday---So during our district meeting on Tuesday we get a text from Brice Noel. (Remember the guy that definitively dropped us?) He said that we probably think he's a crazy person, or at least very indecisive, but he AND HIS WIFE have been feeling the impression that they need to come to our church at least once! We testified that it was Heavenly Father speaking through the Holy Ghost and set an appointment to show them both the church and answer some questions they had about tithing. So today they show up and we show them around. They were both incredibly impressed at how beautiful, simple and practical the building was, but most importantly when we showed the baptismal font they were impressed by the fact that it was below the ground (to help with the symbolism of the death and burial) and they seemed excited as we explained how we baptize. Week 70 - Ups...downs...and all-arounds....yet somehow I'm still standing.
I don't really know how to explain all that's happened the last 3 weeks other than what I said in the subject line. It's been the most challenging time of my mission by far.
Jan 12th today we had an exchange in Rouen with Elders Larsen and George. It was pretty sick because it started out with us doing service for their Bishop and Samuel Babin (from the I'm a Mormon video "I'm a Mormon, Frenchman, and a Trilingual Family Father" the translation isn't as funny as what he actually says btw) who also is President Babin's little brother (President Babin is playing tennis with him in the video haha!). We helped them transport some huge dressers but it was super easy because they had hydraulic jacks, so we didn't have to wreck our backs haha! It was really fun because the bishop in Rouen is the son of a family I knew well in La Rochelle so we chitchatted a bit about them and what not. That evening while George and I were out searching for some less-actives it started to pour....guess who didn't have an umbrella or jacket and was wearing the suit he needed for a conference with the Europe Area President....This guy
Jan 13th Today we were in Paris for a special conference with Elder Patrick Kearon of the Seventy who is the president of the Europe Area. The Spirit was present even before he entered the chapel; during the prelude music I was on the verge of tears. Then he came in and the excitement kicked up about 20 notches! Haha. He had us all sit down and then said he and his wife would like to shake all of our hands. As it was my turn to go up he asked where I was from and I said St. George, but then he asked what stake I was from and my mind went blank. I got this dumb look on my face and all I could think of was "Le pieu de Paris" haha! After about 3 seconds I finally remembered, told him, then got out of there as fast as I could
Jan 20th Got the news that Grandpa had a stroke, and then that night I got a call from President Babin informing me of Grandpa's death. It still doesn't feel totally real. I spent some time on my knees and in the scriptures and I just knew that Grandpa had lived the life he was supposed to, and now he was at "rest". I say that because I know he's working just as hard on that side of the veil as he did on this side :) I also called up Elder Libby because his grandpa passed away from cancer while we were together. He let me vent a little, made me laugh because he's the weirdest kid I know, and made me feel a lot better. He told me a story that made me die laughing, so I'll share it with you. So there's this BIG Hawaiian elder in our mission who LOVES hugging people, and when he hugs you it's a bear hug with a lift haha.
So, the Kearon conference was two days because they couldn't get both halves of the mission in the building, and the second day was when this elder was there. After the conference right before lunch this elder goes up to talk to President Kearon (and President Kearon is a fun, humorous, loving guy) and then he gives him a hug complete with the lift. When he puts President Kearon down a serious look comes on PK's face and he says (with his intense British accent) "Don't you ever pick up a general authority again." and then he walks away. This elder just about faints from fear! Haha I was on the floor laughing from that, 'twas too good!
Jan 24th. In order to convey the significance of what happened today I must give an overview of how the work has been going the past month...
Jan 26th We were in Paris today so I could pick up my second year legality card. It went super fast and so we had a couple hours in Paris before our train, so we visited the temple site (it's moving along so fast it's incredible) and the Eiffel Tower because Rollins hadn't seen it yet. It was pretty fun. There are some pics ;)
Jan 27th Back in Paris for our district meeting and interviews with President. I told him all about what was going on and even mentioned going home, and in a kind, but still serious way said, "Elder Jorgensen you are doing too much good for the missionaries around you. You aren't going home." It was a definite help. We talked for a good 15 minutes and even though I'm not completely back to normal I'm doing much better.
Jan 31st Today at church we had Lionel come for 2 hours and the branch meal afterward. He really liked it and said he'd for sure come again next week. That's a miracle considering we had to repeat not only the sacrament prayers but the hymn three times (a member who is kind of mentally handicapped played the sacrament hymn rather than me, and he had practiced it way too slow and couldn't adjust. Yes I play the organ every week, melody only, but still ;) ). Then we had a sick branch council and the members asked us for our input on a lot of important subjects which was way cool.
